Export credit agencies hold regional meet

For the first time in its history, Asian export credit agencies held their annual meeting in the Philippines.

As host, Trade and Investment Corporation of the Philippines (which is better known as the Philippine Export-Import Bank) president Joel Valdes was able to get his chairman, Finance Secretary Jose Isidro Camacho, to deliver the keynote address.

The highlight of the conference was the signing of three bilateral agreements: between Mr. Valdes and Export-Import Bank of China vice-president Qian Zhongtao; between Export-Import Bank of India managing director and chief executive officer T.C. Venkat Subramanian and Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad general manager Mohd. Noordin Abbas; and between Export-Import Bank of Korea deputy president Gyu Lee and Mr. Abbas.

The developmental role that eximbanks play in the regional economy was highlighted by the presence of Japan Bank for International Cooperation deputy governor and managing director Koji Tanami. Equally important was the venue of the conference–the headquarters of the Asian Development Bank. MJGrey
