MANILA, Philippines - The BPI Philippine High Dividend Equity Fund is an equity fund that aims to achieve total return through a combination of current income and long-term capital appreciation.
These are invested in listed companies with a history of high dividend yield, or a history of dividend payouts.
BPI/Asset Management Group (BPI/AMG) is the fund manager of the high-dividend equity fund. It is the fund management group of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI).
The new equity fund presents an equity investor with a new strategy that combines the ability to generate attractive returns from price appreciation of the underlying stocks, as well as, from regular dividends.
This type of strategy normally appeals to income-oriented investors especially during periods of low interest rates.
It also provides another option to those who want to balance risk with opportunity whether in a bear or bull market.
The Fund’s strategy is defensive in nature, and the portfolio is less volatile than the Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi).
Likewise, a portfolio of dividend-paying Philippine stocks has generally provided better risk-adjusted returns versus the PSEi.
The strategy of this equity fund is most effective for investors with a five-year investment horizon.
Starting this month, investors can subscribe to the BPI Philippine High Dividend Equity Fund through any of the BPI branches or through BPI Expressonline. The minimum initial investment is only P10,000.
Being an equity fund, this product works best with a cost averaging strategy that is why investors should enroll and regularly invest for as low as P1,000 every month or every quarter.
