Jollibee joins drive for cleaner rivers

As part of its social responsibility and contribution to the preservation of the environment, the Jollibee Group recently joined the Sagip Pasig Movement (SPM) to push for a cleaner Pasig River.

This was in commemoration of the Earth Day celebration as well as the 15th anniversary of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Program.

Participating in the fluvial parade, the Jollibee Group sailed with other participants from Plaza Mexico in Intramuros to Manila Bay and docked at the back of the Mall of Asia where the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other environment groups held an Earth Day program.

SPM aims to add more Clean River Zones (CRZ) along Pasig River to realize the dream of making the river clean soon.

As of now, there are 27 CRZs along the Pasig River system. CRZs are community-based river rehabilitation projects that rely on organized and collective action by communities and institutions along the Quezon City, Pasig, San Juan, Marikina, Manila, Mandaluyong, Makati, Taguig and Pateros river banks. They hold river clean ups, patrols, waste management, education and advocacy activities that contribute to the general river rehabilitation program.

The Jollibee Group recognizes the pioneering work done by SPM for the past 15 years towards a community-based river rehabilitation program.

“We really welcome Jollibee, Chowking and Greenwich’s engagement and are also calling on more private institutions and companies to support the establishment of more CRZs to show good corporate citizenship,” Earth Day Network chairperson and former DENR Secretary Bebet Gozun said.

The Jollibee Group has drawn up various activities to raise public awareness on the environment that started with Earth Day Network Philippines’ Sandiwang event recently held at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

The Group believes that awareness is important in the campaign to protect the environment.
