PBE elects new officers

At their annual meeting held Nov. 29, members of the Philippine Business for the Environment (PBE) elected their board of trustees for 2006. The board is led by PBE chairman Ed Chua who is also country chairman and CEO of Pilipinas Shell. PBE founding chairman is Washington Z. Sycip.

The trustees consist of industry CEOs and company leaders who have always considered the environment an important responsibility of doing business.

They are: Leo Alejandrino (PBE president), Editha I. Alcantara (C. Alcantara and Sons), Edgardo A. Bautista (Mirant Philippines), Howard D. Belton (Unilever Philippines, Inc.), Dr. Corazon PB. Claudio, Corazon S. de la Paz (Social Security System), Elisea G. Gozun (Philippine Earth Day Network and former DENR Secretary), Oscar J. Hilado (Phinma), Elpidio L. Ibañez (First Philippine Holdings Corp.), Pedro E. Roxas (Central Azucarera de Don Pedro), and Cesar A. Virata (Rizal Commercial Banking Corp.) Also present at the meeting was PBE chairman and former DTI Secretary Juan B. Santos.

PBE is a 13-year old business organization whose mission is to help Philippine industry address its environmental concerns. It has 49 member companies, many of which were among the early adopters of the Philippine Business Charter for Sustainable Development and cleaner production best practices.

PBE builds environmental partnerships between industry, government and civil society.
