442 arrested for various violations

CEBU, Philippines — A total of 442 individuals were apprehended in 315 operations conducted by the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) across the province under the Safer Cities Initiative on September 25, 2026.

Of the total, 296 individuals were fined, while 146 were warned or released. The enforcement drive also generated a total of ?127,950 in fines.

The operations aimed to enforce various local ordinances and strengthen police visibility in communities across Cebu.

Among the violations recorded by police were 64 cases of drinking in public places, 47 minors violating curfew hours, 19 cases of smoking in public places, and 16 instances involving individuals roaming the streets without shirts.

Police also recorded 296 violations of city and municipal traffic ordinances, which accounted for the largest number of violations recorded during the operations.

According to CPPO Provincial Director Police Colonel Abubakar Udang Mangelen Jr., the Safer Cities Initiative focuses on preventing violations and maintaining order in communities.

Mangelen said keeping communities safer requires not only the enforcement of ordinances but also the cooperation of residents in following local rules.

He emphasized that police visibility and the fair and consistent enforcement of ordinances will continue, while respecting the rights of everyone. — (FREEMAN)
