BOC, NBI partner vs smuggling
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has strengthened its partnership with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to combat smuggling.
During the BOC’s Collectors Conference on Aug. 13, NBI Director Melvin Matibag reaffirmed his commitment to support the Customs bureau’s anti-smuggling campaign.
Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said the BOC would work closely with the NBI and other government agencies in support of the government’s campaign against smuggling, illicit trade and other forms of economic sabotage.
Matibag lauded the partnership between the NBI and BOC, noting that their joint efforts have contributed significantly to major enforcement accomplishments.
The NBI and BOC recently confiscated in Nueva Ecija P35.4 million worth of smuggled agricultural products from China and the Netherlands.
