Delos Santos shatters world marks

MANILA, Philippines — Albert Ian delos Santos is ready for Nagoya.
The 19-year-old sensation from Zamboanga sent a powerful statement ahead of next month’s Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, sweeping all three gold medals and shattering Asian and world records in the junior men’s 70kg division of the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships on Tuesday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Delos Santos dominated his class with a 141kg lift in snatch, 180kg in clean and jerk, and 321kg in total to complete a golden trifecta.
The effort was more than a sweep – it was historic.
His 180kg clean and jerk and 321kg total erased the previous Asian and world junior standards of 179kg and 318kg, respectively. It marks the second time in two months that Delos Santos has rewritten the record books.
