MWSS water allocation reduced anew
MALOLOS, Bulacan, Philippines — As the water elevation of Angat Dam continues to recede, the National Water Resources Board has again reduced the water allocation of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) until July 30, the NWRB announced yesterday.
NWRB executive director Sevillano David Jr. confirmed to The STAR that the allocation was reduced from 48 cubic meters per second to only 46 CMS from July 16 to 30.
The Bulacan disaster risk reduction and management office reported that the water elevation of Angat Dam continued sliding to its lowest recorded level at 152.85 meters yesterday.
The level is 7.15 meters below the critical level of 160 meters. It is also 27.15 meters below the dam’s minimum operating level of 180 meters.
In 2010, Angat Dam recorded its lowest level at only 157.56 meters. The record was broken this year, as authorities recorded on July 7 a low of 157.52 meters.
The dam is the primary source for the raw water needs of Metro Manila residents and irrigation supply for Bulacan and parts of Pampanga. It also contributes to the hydropower generation for the Luzon grid.
