MANILA, Philippines — Globe Telecom Inc. is deploying 20 hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) for its field sales service by yearend, a move that would bring the telco-to-tech giant at least P100 million in savings in the long run.
Globe yesterday announced it has tied up with ACMobility for the rollout of 20 HEVs that would serve the business-to-business sales and customer management of the telco. ACMobility and Globe are both part of the Ayala Group of Companies.
This is the initial phase of Globe’s plan to transition nearly 500 vehicles in its fleet to hybrid or fully-electric models by 2028 in line with efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
As a whole, the shift will avert the emission of about five million kilos of carbon waste. It will also lead to at least P100 million in savings on fuel consumption for Globe.
Primarily, the shift to electric cars stamps Globe’s compliance with the provisions of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act. The law mandates government and corporate entities to have a minimum of five percent of their fleet as electric vehicles.
Globe president and CEO Carl Raymond Cruz said the telco also wants to speed up its transition to a fleet made up of mostly HEVs.
“HEVs are not just more efficient to operate and maintain, but they also allow us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint,” Cruz said.
Under Globe’s roadmap, it intends to ramp up the number of HEVs in its fleet over the next three years, adding 20 this year, 200 units by 2026 and 300 more by 2028.
Coverage will expand as time goes by, beginning from Luzon where most charging infrastructure are located right now, to Visayas and Mindanao later on when their readiness has improved. For now, the HEVs will cater to Globe’s business-to-business sales and customer management teams.
