Trans-Asia Shipping Lines inks agreement with Kumiai Senpaku unit

MANILA, Philippines — Trans-Asia Shipping Lines Inc., a company owned by Dennis Uy’s Chelsea Logistics, is further expanding its services.

Chelsea president and chief executive officer Chryss Alfonsus Damuy said the company signed a 10-year bareboat charter agreement with Southern Pacific Holding Corp. to accommodate the growing number of passengers in the Visayas and Mindanao.

The agreement, which includes an option to renew for another 10 years, involves a 123-meter roll-on/roll-off passenger ferry.

Southern Pacific Holding Corp.  is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kumiai Senpaku Co. Ltd., of Tokyo, Japan.

The subject vessel has a gross tonnage of 8,800 tons. It will be constructed at Fukuoka Shipyard in Japan and delivered in June 2021.

The ship will carry 1,085 passengers, 24 buses and 11 trucks.
