MANILA, Philippines — The Cebu Doctors’ Group of Hospitals is investing some P200 million to expand its hospital in Mactan Island in the next two years to meet the increasing population and demand for healthcare in the locality.
Mactan Doctors Hospital (MDH) is set for a three-phase expansion which will increase its bed capacity to 300 from the current 160.
In a press conference last Saturday, president and chairman Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal III said the expansion would increase the hospital’s employment and bring in new technology to address healthcare gaps in Lapu-Lapu City.
Larrazabal said the company aims to make MDH a key player in Cebu’s healthcare industry which has seen an increase in demand amid Cebu’s economic growth and rising urban population.
“The population of Cebu is increasing. If we talk about Mactan, its population is also increasing. More people are working here and more families are raised here, more subdivisions are developed here, the companies in MEPZ have also doubled in number,” he said.
The expansion’s first phase is the construction of its three-story medical arts building, which will take six months.
The second phase is the development of a two-story concierge facility in the hospital, while the third phase involves the expansion of its bed capacity. Each is to be implemented in six months.
Larrazabal said other member hospitals of the company are also set for upcoming upgrades and expansion.
The group plans to develop a trauma center in its South General Hospital, and launch a mother and child center in North General Hospital.
The new medical arts building will house clinics of doctors of MDH.
Once completed, the 1,521-sqm building will house at least 51 doctors’ rooms.
The group is also looking to make all its hospitals fully integrated.
“We are providing a wide array of medical equipment and medical technology that can be accessible not only in Cebu, but also to the neighboring islands in Negros and Ormoc,” he said.
The group has six hospitals, namely South General Hospital, North General Hospital, MDH, Ormoc Doctors Hospital, San Carlos General Hospital and Cebu Doctors University Hospital. – Freeman News Service
