AirAsia issues e-boarding pass

MANILA, Philippines -  Passengers of Philippines AirAsia Inc. can now use their smartphones to check-in flights through the e-boarding pass made available on all domestic flights in the country.

Through the E-Boarding Pass or paperless boarding pass, guests without check-in-baggage can go straight to the boarding gate without having to queue at the check-in counter or desk at the airport.

Guests with check-in-baggage, however, would still need to go to the bag drop counter before heading to the boarding gate.

“We are constantly investing in technology to make flying easier, more enjoyable, and comfortable for our guests.  With the expected surge of travellers this summer, e-boarding pass will significantly reduce time spent queueing at airport counters,” Philippines AirAsia CEO Dexter Comendador said in a statement.

To use the paperless boarding pass, passengers have to download the AirAsia Mobile App in their smartphones.

The app would be used to check-in and receive their e-boarding pass in their mobile phones. Upon boarding, guests will have to show their e-boarding pass instead of the traditional paper tickets.

The E-Boarding pass is available on all Philippines AirAsia’s domestic flights departing from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 4, Cebu, Kalibo, Davao, Tacloban, Puerto Princesa and Tagbilaran.

At present, it is limited to one guest in one booking only and unavailable for those traveling to international destinations or with multiple flights.

Philippines AirAsia has a fleet of 14 aircraft being used for domestic and international flights.

Last year, it served a total of 3.99 million passengers, up 11 percent from the 3.59 million in 2015.
