MANILA, Philippines (First published 12:25 p.m., Oct. 19, 2016) — The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) grounded a number of domestic flights due to the expected onslaught of Typhoon Lawin.
In its latest advisory, MIAA said that several flights canceled were headed to and from Manila and Tuguegarao, Cagayan, the area targeted by the supertyphoon.
Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines Express flights were grounded.
Lawin made landfall over Peñablanca, southern Cagayan past 11 p.m. on Wednesday. The state weather bureau downgraded Lawin from supertyphoon to typhoon as of 4 a.m. on Thursday.
