MANILA, Philippines - Telco giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) dominated the postpaid mobile market in the first semester as its subscriber base grew by 18 percent year-on-year.
In a statement, PLDT said the combined postpaid cellular subscriber base of Smart Communications Inc. and Digitel Mobile Philippines Inc. (Sun Cellular) reached over three million in the first semester as it signed up over 253,000 new subscribers amid improved brand positioning and attractive bundled digital offers.
The group’s combined postpaid mobile subscriber base is higher than the competition’s 2.3 million during the same period.
“We’ve already seen traction in our campaigns for Smart and Sun. We are seeing more consumers choosing us over competition on the basis of our value proposition, and we are growing our revenues without sacrificing the quality of our receivables. Brand positioning and affordable data volume plans bundled with relevant content from our partners like iflix and Fox have also combined to produce strong growth in our postpaid business,” Ariel Fermin, PLDT executive vice president and group head of consumer business said.
Fermin said the aim now is to replicate the progress made in the prepaid segment.
“This will be possible as we enable more and more of our prepaid subscribers to experience and enjoy our digital services. This is why we are investing heavily to strengthen our network and service delivery platform, and, offering very affordable data packages,” Fermin said.
As mobile users want access to relevant content anytime and anywhere, PLDT intends to continue to offer a wide array of digital content and services to choose from.
The PLDT Group remains the number one mobile service provider in the country in terms of subscriber base.
As of the first half, Smart and Sun had a combined total of 68.9 million subscribers.
