MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is set to open the financial bids for the proposed P4 billion Integrated Transport System (ITS)-South Terminal project today.
The P4 billion project involves the construction of a terminal at the Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) complex in Taguig.
The ITS-South Terminal will connect passengers coming from the south, specifically the Batangas and Laguna area to other urban transport systems serving Metro Manila.
The project also covers the construction of arrival and departure bays, public information systems, ticketing and baggage facilities and park-ride facilities.
“This project will enable commuters to have seamless transfers from one mode of transport to another. Creating a central terminal for all types of public transportation will not only give access to our daily commuters, but also help those who are unfamiliar with PUV routes and services,” DOTC Secretary Joseph Abaya said.
Megawide Construction Corp., Ayala Land Inc., Datem Inc., and Filinvest have submitted pre-qualifications documents for the project.
The winning bidder will be responsible for the design, construction, as well as operations and maintenance of the terminal.
The project has a concession period of 35 years.
The DOTC is aiming to award the project in the third quarter of this year, while construction is expected to start by the second quarter of 2016.
The terminal is targeted to open in December 2017.
