MANILA, Philippines — Depositors of the closed Rural Bank of Burauen (Leyte) Inc. have been advised by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. to file their claims via mail or in person.
PDIC, which took over the bank after it was closed in December last year, said in a statement it will continue to receive and process deposit insurance claims from clients of the closed bank at its office along Ayala Avenue in Makati City.
“PDIC has yet to receive deposit insurance claims for P4 million covering 340 accounts,” the state deposit insurer said.
“In accordance with the provisions of the PDIC Charter, the last day for filing deposit insurance claims in the said bank is on December 12, 2016. After said date, PDIC shall no longer accept any deposit insurance claim,” it stressed.
PDIC said the bank had 2,005 accounts with deposits amounting to P32.9 million based on records.
However, only P21.9 million covering 142 accounts was paid during the claim settlement operations and another P5.9 million was settled via mail to depositors with balances of P50,000 and below.
The PDIC reminded depositors they need to present an accomplished claim form, the original copy of the evidence of deposit, and two valid photo-bearing IDs when filing claims personally or even through mail.
Depositors below 18 years old need to present a copy of their birth certificate, while claimants who are not signatory to bank records should submit an original copy of a notarized Special Power of Attorney.
The bank’s chairman is Valeria G. Brigola, while its president is Jerone V. Dagatan, the PDIC said earlier.
As of end-June this year, the rural bank is owned by Rosario V. Dagatan (30.1 percent), Jerone V. Dagatan (24.11 percent), Valeria G. Brigola (7.83 percent), Corazon D. Oribia (5.18 percent), Allan Jesus P. Bantula (3.04 percent), Ma. Fe P. Bantula (2.95 percent), Eufrocina C. Dagatan (2.86 percent), Emelita M. Almerino (2.7 percent) and Clinton Val G. Brigola (2.33 percent), the state deposit insurer said.
