MANILA, Philippines - Dominant carrier Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) continued to dominate the country’s fixed broadband business, controlling 70 percent of the market as of the end of the third quarter.
PLDT president and chief executive officer Napoleon Nazareno said the company recorded a 12-percent increase in revenues from the fixed broadband businesses to P10.2 billion in the first nine months of the year from P9.1 billion in the same period last year.
Nazareno said that PLDT through its home digital services group PLDT HOME has remained the preferred broadband provider in the country with consistent double-digit increases in broadband subscribers.
During the period, the PLDT Group’s broadband subscribers jumped 18 percent to nearly one million.
“We are glad to know that majority of the broadband market prefers our products and services which is primarily due to the PLDT Group’s integrated approach of providing a range of high-quality voice, data, and multimedia services to our customers,” he said.
For his part, PLDT executive vice president and head of HOME Business Ariel Fermin said PLDT HOME expects sustained growth in broadband with new revenue streams through various services offered in PLDT HOME Telpad and TVolution.
