Manila Water now in Myanmar

MANILA, Philippines - After its successful foray in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, East Zone water concessionaire Manila Water Co. intends to replicate its successful water leakage reduction program in Yangon City of Myanmar.

Just recently, Manila Water along with Mitsubishi Corp. of Japan signed a memorandum of understanding with the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), the administrative body responsible for water management in Yangon City, Myanmar. The MOU paves the way for the development of a proposed project that will lower nonrevenue water in Yangon.

With its democratization in 2011, Myanmar has opened its doors to new foreign investments. Manila Water has successfully reduced eastern Metro Manila’s system loss to 11 percent from a high of 63 percent in 1997.

Manila Water also operates the water wastewater system of Boracay Island, Clark’s Special Economic and Freeport Zones and cities of Binan, Sta. Rosa and Cabuyao in Laguna.

Its Cebu subsidiary is set to deliver its first water to the Queen City by middle of this year.
