ALI bags reg’l award for environmental sustainability

MANILA, Philippines - Ayala Land (ALI) has been conferred the 2014 Green Luminary Award by Channel News Asia in recognition of its efforts in promoting environmental sustainability and integrating green practices in  its projects.

â€œWe are honored to receive this Green Luminary award in recognition of Ayala Land’s efforts to incorporate environmental best practices, from the time we design our estates and products, and throughout their execution and operations,” ALI president and CEO Tony Aquino said at the awards ceremony last Feb. 25 in Singapore.

CNA’s Green Luminary Award is given to an Asian company that leads in employing green practices in its business.

Notable among ALI developments are Greenbelt Mall, Bonifacio Global City, Ayala Alabang, NUVALI, and Cebu Park District which have abundant parks, open spaces, and pocket greens.  Newer developments have incorporated hybrid storm water management systems that increase resilience of communities by slowing down the flow of stormwater into the city’s waterways.

ALI developments enhance pedestrian-friendly practices, as in the case of Makati’s walkways and Bonifacio High Street, which help decrease car use and emissions. Leisure projects and resorts such as Anvaya Cove and El Nido Resorts likewise showcase the company’s efforts in protecting coastal communities and biodiversity.

ALI explores ways to optimize resource efficiency in order to protect the population from future scarcities.  It prioritizes local community economic resilience by focusing on local employment and including the community in the company’s value chain.  A key to the company’s sustainability drive is efficiency, be it in managing and decreasing water and energy consumption, and waste production, or in designing products that are energy efficient and environmentally sound.

“Ayala Land also contributes to nation-building by providing housing products to the broader segment of Filipinos in more locations nationwide, and support economic development by pushing growth sectors such as business process outsourcing and tourism,” said Aquino.

Recipients of CNA’s Luminary Awards underwent a stringent selection process and were evaluated and chosen by an independent jury panel. The other 2014 Luminary awardees are John L. Gokongwei Jr., founder and chairman emeritus of JG Summit Holdings, for Lifetime Achievement Luminary award, Sabrina Chao, chairman of Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Ltd., who received the Future Luminary award, and Keppel Land Limited, the Innovation Luminary award.
