PLDT completes P861-M submarine cable to Palawan

MANILA, Philippines - Dominant carrier Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) spent P861 million to complete the rollout of state-of-the-art submarine fiber optic cables in Palawan, bringing its total domestic fiber optic network (DFON) nationwide to 78,000 kilometers.

PLDT president and chief executive officer Napoleon Nazareno said the new fiber optic facilities stretching 300 kilometers from Taytay in Palawan to San Jose de Buenavista in Iloilo would link Palawan in western Philippines to the rest of the PLDT network.

â€œWith its extensive fiber optic network, the PLDT Group remains unmatched in delivering high-quality voice, data, and multimedia services to its customers,” Nazareno stressed.

He pointed out that the new facilities would enable PLDT to provide fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) facilities that delivers multimedia-rich services and also support the operations of its wireless subsidiaries Smart Communications and Sun Cellular.

He added that the new facilities would also boost the deployment of Smart’s ultra-fast long term evolution (LTE) service for its mobile subscribers in Palawan.

The additional fiber optic cables would also help meet the rapidly increasing demand for robust and reliable telecoms and data services in one of the country’s top tourist destinations.
