Calata partners with Chinese feed maker

MANILA, Philippines - Listed agri-business firm Calata Corp. has partnered with Chinese animal feed manufacturer New Hope Group (NHG) for the distribution of its products in the Philippines under a house brand.

In a regulatory filing, Calata said its partnership with NHG is expected to “dramatically increase” corporate revenue streams in agribusiness.

NHG in China produces 26.6 million tons of animal feed annually.

NHG is also one of the largest suppliers of meat, egg and dairy product in China supplying the market with more than 200 million tons of poultry meat, and half a million tons of milk anually.

In 1999, NHG opened its first overseas plant in Vietnam. Today, it also has plants in Vietnam, Bangladesh, Philippines, Bengal, and Indonesia.

Calata’s partnership with NHG, however, would be focused on the distribution of feeds.

“We are creating our own brand that will be manufactured by New Hope. We will distribute this to the whole Philippines,” said Calata chairman Joseph Calata in a text message.

“We will also be their partner in all their expansion activities in the Philippines,” he added.

Calata distributes agro-chemicals, feeds, fertilizers, veterinary medicines and other agricultural products.

Its business partners include San Miguel Corp. for B-Meg Feeds and veterinary products; Syngenta, Bayer, Jardine, Dupont, Sinochem, for agro-chemicals; East West Seeds, Monsanto, Planters Products for agricultural seeds; and Swire, Viking for fertilizers.
