MANILA, Philippines - The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved three types of electric metering products, giving distribution utilities more options for their revenue metering needs.
The ERC approved the applications of Silicon Electrical Supply Inc. and Enex Electric Philippines Inc. for three new types of electric watt-hour meter products.
ERC chairperson Zenaida Cruz-Ducut said the regulator’s approval assured the accuracy and quality of the electric metering products.
“The ERC, thru the strict enforcement of requirements provided in the rules and independent accuracy tests, ensures the public of electric watt-hour meters that are accurate, safe and of high quality,†Ducut said.
Manila-based Silicon applied for approval in February last year while Enex Electric, a company based in Ortigas, applied in November last year.
In their respective applications, the companies said their meter products are manufactured and tested by Hexing Electrical Co. Ltd. of China, an accredited testing laboratory by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment.
CNAS is a signatory to the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation – Multilateral Recognition Arrangement and Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation – Multilateral Recognition Arrangement and is also authorized by the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China to operate the national accreditation schemes for conformity assessment in China, the ERC said.
They also submitted complete performance results of the tests conducted in their laboratories.
The ERC would issue a certificate of approval to both Silicon and Enex to signify that their meter types are now eligible for use in revenue metering.
“They are now permitted to place a marker or sticker of the ERC logo on the nameplates of their new types of meter product,†Ducut said.
