Honda Cars recalls Pilot, Odyssey models

MANILA, Philippines - Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) is recalling 171 units of the Pilot and Odyssey models to inspect and replace the rivet in the driver’s front airbag.

HCPI said in a statement the recall is being conducted as the vehicles may have potentially inappropriate installation of rivet in the driver’s front airbag.

The company said the recall affects Honda Pilot and Odyssey vehicles sold in the country from June last year until this month.

According to Honda, findings show that there are possibly some rivets which secure the driver’s front airbag cover and bracket that were inappropriately installed.

“As a result, the deployment characteristics of the affected airbags may change upon collision and driver protection performance may decrease,” HCPI said.

The company said the announcement is in line with a recall being conducted in the US following a manufacturing report in that country involving potential inappropriate installation of driver airbag rivets of some 836,716 vehicles of Honda Pilot (2009 to 2013 models) and Odyssey (2011 to 2013 models).

No crashes or injuries have been reported related to the issue, but HCPI is carrying a voluntary recall in accordance with its standard of ensuring the quality of the product and safety of consumers.

Concerned customers and/or owners of the affected vehicles shall be notified by phone and letters from Honda dealers.

To conduct the recall in an orderly manner, customers may also get in touch with their respective dealers or call the Honda Hotline 1-800-1000-HONDA (46632) and (02) 857-7240 for service appointment.

Customers may also send an email to customer_relations@hondaphil.com to set an appointment.

The inspection of vehicles being carried out in the firm’s 28 authorized dealers and three service centers nationwide started on Monday.

The inspection of the units will take about 12 minutes while the replacement of parts will take about 18 minutes.

Both are being undertaken free of charge.

“Owners of Honda Jazz, City, Civic, Accord, CR-V and HR-V models sold and distributed by Honda Cars Philippines are not affected and thus have no reason to worry since the affected parts are of different source,” HCPI said.
