PFA bags QC franchising award

MANILA, Philippines - As the main catalyst in the growth of the country’s franchising industry and for its impressive contribution to job generation through entrepreneurship, the Quezon City government will honor the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) with its Gawad Parangal 2012 award, the city’s highest recognition for exemplary performance by individuals and institutions.

PFA, founded in 1995 with the mission to promote franchising as a powerful tool for economic development and nation-building, will receive the award on Oct. 12 during the Quezon City government’s Gabi ng Parangal.

PFA, the country’s pioneering and premier franchise association, was cited for its invaluable contributions to the economy, particularly on enterprise development and job creation as well as for strengthening the culture of entrepreneurship in the Philippines. It has been  instrumental in making the Philippines the center for franchise development in Asia.

Since its founding, the growth of franchising in the Philippines has been phenomenal. In 1995, there were only about 100 franchises in the country. Today, there are over 1,300 franchise systems, more than 60 percent of which are homegrown.

The growth was achieved by PFA through programs and initiatives it has undertaken to promote the inclusive growth of the sector – from the smallest to the largest, both foreign and homegrown.

PFA is recognized by the World Franchise Council (WFC), the Asia Pacific Franchise Confederation (APFC) and the US-based International Franchise Association (IFA) for this same purpose.

Franchise Asia Philippines, PFA’s annual franchise show, had its  20th edition only recently. It continues to be the biggest franchise show in Asia and a very important and most-anticipated trade show in the country. It also remains the centerpiece capacity-building activity for the entire Philippine franchising sector.
