Manila, Philippines - Petron Corp. won the bidding for the supply of fuel for the military including fuel for the Navy’s largest ship BRP Gregorio del Pilar.
Petron offered to supply fuel for three military projects at a bid price of P314 million, lower than the P381-million total budget approved by the government.
Defense assistant secretary Ernesto Boac, chairman of the agency’s bids and awards committee, said the government would save P67 million since the offer is lower than the amount allotted for the projects.
“The savings can be used for other items subject to the approval of the defense department,” Boac said.
Other firms that expressed interest to undertake the three projects are PTT Philippines Corp., Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc., and Eon Petroleum Corp.
However, these companies either did not submit formal bids or failed to present the necessary documents on time.
