Bounty Fresh Food expects double-digit growth for 2011

MANILA, Philippines -  Bounty Fresh Food Inc. is looking at a double-digit growth in sales.

Bounty Fresh president Tennyson Cheng said Bounty Fresh is now the second largest chicken supplier in the Philippines with sales of P10 billion.

Cheng said that despite their company size, they remain a very conservative company and they have no immediate plans of listing in the local bourse. He noted that having a public offering is an expensive way to raise money and the company prefers to grow organically first by increasing its efficiency.

Cheng said they expect the industry to grow by two percent this year. He noted that for every increase in the gross domestic product (GDP), the demand for chicken also goes up. In fact, he said that the number one product that goes up when an economy grows is chicken.

Cheng disclosed that they used to export yakitori chicken to Japan but the disaster has forced them to stop. “The yakitori export to Japan was very strong but we had to stop it. It is difficult also to export because these are migratory birds exposed to the avian flu.”

Currently, their Chooks to go have 1,100 outlets nationwide. Cheng said they have stores  from Apari to Lamitan in Mindanao. Cheng said all of these outlets are company owned. When asked if they are considering franchising, Cheng refused to give a concrete answer saying only that “franchising is the way to go.”
