MANILA, Philippines - Manila Water is investing P2.4 billion to build more reservoirs to meet the increasing water demand and ensure the reliability water supply for Antipolo City, Manila Water group director for project delivery Ding Carpio said.
“We are constructing additional facilities and expanding our network to enable more people to gain access to water supply. For the Antipolo water supply project, Manila Water has invested P2.4 billion to lay mainlines and build the Kingsville station and the Siruna and Lukban reservoirs and pumping stations,” Carpio said.
The company recently completed the construction of the 20-million liter Maguey reservoir in Antipolo City to raise the capacity of the Lukban pumping station by an additional 20 million liters. The increase will almost double the current capacity of Lukban which is 21.million liters.
“Built at a higher ground elevation, the newly-constructed reservoir is an important project as it will further increase the reliability of water supply because water will now flow in the pipelines via gravity assuring continuous water supply. The new system will also redound to less power consumption and reliance on electricity,” according to Carpio.
Once fully operational, the Maguey reservoir will benefit new customers from the highly elevated poblacion area and also enable Manila Water to expand water supply to Teresa and Morong towns in Rizal.
Manila Water provides water services to more than one million households in the East concession area through more than 680,000 water service connections and 51,000 sewer service connections. Of the more than five million people connected to the water network, 1.5 million people or about 230,000 households belong to the low-income communities.
The East zone covers the following areas: Rodriguez, San Mateo, Marikina, Cainta, Pasig, San Juan, portions of Quezon City, Makati, Taguig, Pateros, Sta Ana and San Andres in Manila and towns of Rizal.
