PLDT issues advisory on accidental cutting of cables

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) said underground cable facilities along A. Mabini Street, Kapasigan, Pasig City were accidentally cut by a city contractor doing excavation work in Pasig City last Oct. 11.

The accident affected 12,149 telephone lines which are temporarily out of service as of this time. The extent of damage is: ten (10) underground PLDT copper cables and two (2) fiber optic cables. However, the fiber optic cables have already been restored as of Oct. 13, 2009.

Areas that are still affected are: Pasig – Barangays Bambang, Buting, Malinao, San Joaquin, Sumilang, Pinagbuhatan, Kalawaan, Greenwoods Executive Village, City Hall and vicinities; Pateros – Barangays Sta. Ana, and Martires del 96 and Taguig – Barangays Sta. Ana, Tuktukan, Ususan, Napindan and Tipas.

PLDT is now replacing the damaged lateral conduits and portions of underground copper cables. Complete restoration is expected on or before Oct. 26.
