Global industrial conglomerate Siemens AG has successfully energized the power transformer and substation in the Manila Electric Co.’s Meralco’s newly installed 230 kilowatt substation in Amadeo, Cavite.
The Amadeo delivery point substation will provide an alternate power source to major Meralco substations in Cavite which are radially fed by 115-kv lines from the Dasmariñas substation.
Apart from addressing the area’s anticipated increase in its electrical energy requirements, the new Amadeo substation will prevent overloading and power interruptions in its customers grid.
Siemens provided the design, installation, factory-testing and commissioning of the transformer and major substation equipment which has an initial capacity of 300 megawatt-ampere (MWA) over a total land area of 142,706 hectares burgeoning with industrial, commercial and residential communities.
The project further strengthens Siemens’ relationship with Meralco, the country’s largest electricity distributor and a key market in the local energy sector.
“Siemens is proud to be Meralco’s major service provider in this significant project. We look forward to supplying more of their energy distribution and transmission requirements”, said Jorel Nuyda, senior vice president of Siemens Philippines.
With the recent project, Meralco also awarded Siemens two additional supply contracts of 115-kv, 83-MVA transformers in their substations in Central Business Park and Fort Bonifacio Global City.
According to Siemens, these new contracts are scheduled to be operational in October 2009.
