PEZA exports reach $32.8B

The Philippine Export Zone Authority (PEZA) reported yesterday that exports from PEZA-registered special economic zones from January to December last year reached $32.871 billion, 6.3 percent higher than the $30.924 billion recorded in 2004.

The bulk of the exports came from the 39 private ecozone locators.

Exports from the private ecozones alone in 2005 amounted to $24.375 billion, increasing by 2.4 percent from the $23.802 billion in exports posted from January to December 2004.

The four public ecozones were able to export $8.120 billion worth of goods for the 12-month period in review, increasing 17.43 percent from 2004’s comparable exports of $6.914 billion.

The special IT buildings and IT Parks, for their part, posted $376.1 million in export of services from January to December last year, increasing 82 percent from its exports of only $206.6 million for the whole of 2004.

PEZA also reported that employment generated in the special ecozones from January to December 2005 reached 275,013 jobs, increasing 9.63 percent over the 250,833 workers employed as of end-2004.
