Flordeliza Villegas, chief of the BIR Revenue District Office 23 based in this city, told The STAR that the amount raised as of end-September is P45.9 million higher than the revenues collected over the first nine months of 2001 of P440.39 million.
The P485.8 million is P1 million higher than the revenue target for the period of P484.8 million.
Villegas said that for the month of September alone, her office realized collections of P39.2 million, 51.64 percent higher than last years collection of P25.86 million. This is also 18 percent higher than the September target of P33.1 million.
A report on the RDO-Cabanatuans collection performance for 2002 showed that it posted percentage increases in the months of February, March, April, May, June and July while registering lower collections in January and August compared to their collections last year.
The bulk of this years collections came from income taxes (P284 million) and value-added taxes (VAT), P140.7 million.
Villegas said that as of end September, their office ranks third among the various RDOs in Central Luzon in terms of revenues collected.
She said that the RDO-Cabanatuan is spearheading a series of tax symposia as part of efforts to further increase tax collections. Since last year, she said, the office has already sponsored three such symposia. According to her, the provincial goverment of Nueva Ecija, led by Gov. Tomas Joson III will also hold a tax symposium at the Ma. Assumpta Seminary here on Oct. 22. Manny Galvez
