Smart CEO to speak in 2 conferences

Smart Communications, Inc. president and chief executive officer Napoleon L. Nazareno will discuss innovations using the text messaging platform and the development of mobile Internet in separate international conferences in Miami, Florida and Paris, France.

Nazareno will share the Smart experience on the success of short message system (SMS)-based services in the Philippine market during the Mobile Messaging Latin America conference on Sept. 25 at the Biltmore Hotel in Miami, Florida.

The invitation only event organized by leading global conference firm Marcus Evans will focus on how companies can profit on the newest applications that will boost ARPUs (average revenue per user) and customer loyalty through value-added services. Topics include: Capitalizing on new opportunities emerging in SMS and mobile messaging; interoperability as the key for success in the market; defining how revenue will be captured and shared; maximizing messaging revenue through accurate marketing campaigns; and unlocking the potential of mobile banking.

The Latin American region has 80 million cell clients, posting an average 50 percent growth in the last five years, outpacing the United States, Marcus Evans said. By 2006, earnings from messaging services are projected to reach $660 million.

From Florida, Nazareno will be flying to Paris for the Mobile Internet 2002 Services and Applications Strategy Summit on Oct. 3.

The summit will be incorporating speakers from the whole value chain, which include mobile operators, portals, media content companies, application developers, vendors, consultants, investors and more.

Nazareno will talk about the development of the mobile Internet during the keynote session and the creation of a mobile lifestyle that meets customer’s needs.
