German firm to make Opel, Mercedes Benz parts in RP

Temic Automotive (Phils.) Inc., a subsidiary of Germany-based Conti Temic Microelectronic GmbH, is investing an additional P266 million to manufacture new lines of door control and body control modules for Mercedes Benz, Opel and Saab vehicles.

Based on its application with the Board of Investments (BOI), Temic said it will export its entire output to its mother company in Frankfurt, Germany which also serves as a distribution center.

The bulk – 80 percent to 85 percent – of Temic’s new product line will be distributed to the European market while the rest will be sold to the US market.

The door control modules are primarily designed for Mercedes Benz-type cars, particularly its latest model, the E-class.

The body control modules will include a new feature – the crash sensor. Its function is to unlock all the doors when the vehicle crashes in the event of an accident. The module is both waterproof and foolproof.

With an applied capacity of 1.830 million units per year, Temic Automotive expects to create employment opportunities to 87 highly-skilled Filipinos once the firm operates at full capacity.

Temic Automotive’s plant is located in Taguig, Metro Manila. It started production of its two new lines only last month.

Temic is also planning to invest another P115 million to produce two other new lines by the end of the year.
