Three-day Pokémon competitions fire off in US

SAN FRANCISCO, United States — The Pokemon World Championships and the Pokemon XP are officially open.
The three-day Pokemon competitions, featuring the Trading Card Game, the Video, Pokemon Go and Pokemon Unite, officially kicked off around midnight of Saturday (Manila time) at the Moscone Center here.
More than 3,000 players are set to compete in this year’s edition of the worlds, according tp Pokemon Company International Director for Global Esports and Events Chris Brown.
Around 50,000 fans are also expected to flock to the Moscone Center for the event.
The kickoff started with a beautiful orchestra headlined by the 8-bit Big Band, which transported the audience to Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova and the other regions of Pokemon, much to the delight of the crowd.
Memorable moments of Pokemon were also highlighted in the video presentation, as dancers performed while the orchestra was playing.
“Whether you're here to compete for the title of world champion or you come with family and friends to enjoy pokemon XP, I'm truly delighted that we can all be here together on ng Pokemon's 30th Anniversary,” Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara said in a speech.
“And from all the exciting experience we have waiting for you at Pokemon XP to the World Championship Finals, we're gonna have at Chase Center on Sunday. This weekend is sure to be a lot of fun and one that I think trainers will remember for many years to come,” he added.
Ishihara also tipped his hat to the competitors, saying they are passing off the passion to the younger generation as well.
“And to all the competitors who have battled their way here, truly your hard work, passion and determination inspire future trainers to dream of one day standing on this very stage. You truly represent both an aspiration and a source of hope for the next generation.”
“And just by being here today, you are helping pass those dreams on to the future. Take pride in that. Enjoy every moment of the competition as you give it your best to the very end. And with that, I wish you all the best of luck in your battles.”
Aside from the worlds, fans can also enjoy various activities, panel discussions and attractions in the Pokemon XP.
The lead-up to the opening was impressive as well. The Pokemon Center store was opened to the public on Thursday, and a Pokemon Worlds Night was held at the Oracle Park on Friday. There, the San Francisco Giants defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-1, in a thrilling game.
After the baseball game, a Pokemon drone show was held at the venue, dazzling fans with various Pokemon.
