LTO summons 5 vehicles over Legarda flyover crash

MANILA, Philippines —  The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the owners and drivers of five vehicles involved in a smash-up on Legarda flyover in Sta. Mesa, Manila. 

In a statement yesterday, the LTO said show-cause orders were issued to the registered owners and designated drivers of two jeepneys, one Asian Utility Vehicle, a closed van and a motorcycle.

Initial investigation showed the collision happened on Aug. 24 when a jeepney allegedly lost its brakes while descending the flyover and collided with the vehicle ahead of it, causing a chain-reaction crash.

Thirteen passengers reportedly suffered injuries. 

The LTO is also investigating reports that the jeepney driver left the crash scene without providing necessary assistance to the victims.

Verification showed that the jeepney’s registration expired on June 7, 2023. 

The LTO said one of the motorcycles involved was last registered on May 2, 2025.

The registered owners and drivers of the five vehicles were directed to appear on Sept. 4 at the Intelligence and Investigation Division of the LTO central office in Quezon City.

The vehicles have been placed under alarm status. 

LTO chief Markus Lacanilao ordered the drivers to surrender their licenses as part of a 90-day preventive suspension.
