6 in 10 Pinoys trust PNP – OCTA poll

MANILA, Philippines — Six in 10 Filipinos were satisfied with the performance of the Philippine National Police (PNP), according to a recent OCTA Research group survey.

The poll, conducted from July 4 to 11, found that 65 percent of the respondents either “strongly” or “somewhat” trust the PNP.

Nine percent said they “somewhat” distrust the PNP. Three percent said they “strongly” distrust the police organization. The remaining 23 percent were ambivalent.

In terms of performance, some 63 percent said they were either “very satisfied” or “somewhat satisfied” with the PNP.

Seventeen percent were dissatisfied, while 21 percent could not say if they were satisfied or not.

“Trust runs highest outside the capital: 70 percent in the Visayas, 69 percent in Balance Luzon and 67 percent in Mindanao. Metro Manila is the outlier, with trust at just 40 percent,” OCTA said.

“The same pattern holds for performance, where satisfaction reaches 67 percent in the Visayas and Mindanao and 65 percent in Balance Luzon, but falls to 43 percent in Metro Manila,” the pollster added.

The survey had 1,200 respondents and a margin of error of plus/minus three percent for national percentages.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said the survey result would boost the morale of police personnel.
