Moalboal spikers exact vengeance on Badian
CEBU, Philippines - The spirited volleybelles of Moalboal outlasted Badian in four sets, 3-1, to emerge as champions of the 2026 Calderon Cup-Alcantara Fiesta League on Saturday, August 22, at the Alcantara Sports Complex in southwestern Cebu.
Behind the explosive performance of ace player Jasmine Omagac, Moalboal took the first set decisively, 25-14.
Badian, however, fought back hard to eke out a 25-23 win the second frame.
In the third set, Badian became more aggressive and surged to a 22-18 lead but Moalboal quickly changed the complexion of the match by racking up five straight points to seize the upperhand, 23-22.
Badian forced a 23-all deadlock but immediately thereafter Moalboal rattled two straight points to seal the set, 25-23, and gain a two sets to one advantage.
Sustaining their momentum, the determined Moalboal spikers went on to finish off Badian in the fourth set in rousing fashion, 25-20.
More than pocketing the P20,000 top prize, it was a sweet redemption of sorts for Moalboal, which suffered a heart-breaking defeat to Badian in the finals of the first-ever Calderon Cup Developmental League Volleyball Tournament last May.
Omandac, their brightest star, received a cash incentive as Finals Most Valuable Player of the two-day tilt that is part of the grassroots sports development program of Cebu 7th District Representative Dr. Patsy Calderon.
“Para ni sa tanan nga taga Moalboal ug sa tanan nga misuporta namo, labi na si Mayor (Titing) Cabaron nga wala’y undang paghatag ug suporta sa amo nga team,” said Moalboal coach Arlan Abrenica.
“Nagpasalamat sad mi ni Cong. Patsy Calderon ug Mayor Fritz Lastimoso sa pag-organize ani nga tournament ug paghatag higayon sa mga players nato sa seventh district,” added Abrenica.
