LPA east of Luzon has 'high chance' of developing into tropical depression — PAGASA
MANILA, Philippines — PAGASA is monitoring a low-pressure area far east of Luzon that has a "high chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours.
The low pressure area was last seen some 1,740 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon as of 2 p.m. Thursday, August 13, PAGASA said in an update issued at 4 p.m.
It is currently outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
A low pressure area becomes a tropical depression once it forms a closed circulation with winds of up to 61 kilometers per hour.
It would only get a local name if it crossed into PAR.
Rains have been soaking Luzon the whole week due to the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat).
