Suspect behind severed head found in Talisay falls

MANILA, Philippines — Police have arrested the alleged suspect behind the death of a missing woman whose severed head was found in Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City.

Police identified the suspect as Renier Rommel Albularyo Roxas, who is now in police custody after authorities implemented a court-issued search warrant.

The victim, on the other hand, was identified as Pilar Basilio, who had been reported missing in Barangay San Isidro, Talisay City.

Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas and Talisay City Police Chief PLt. Col. Homobuno Sayon confirmed the arrest and the identification of the victim.

According to Gullas, a DNA examination conducted by police matched Basilio’s sample with the remains recovered in Cansojong.

The police investigation then led authorities to Roxas as the alleged suspect in Basilio’s death.

Before serving the search warrant at Roxas’ residence, police searched a vehicle and motorcycle allegedly linked to him. The operation also resulted in the seizure of suspected illegal drugs and firearms.

Police later coordinated with the Zamboanga Police Provincial Office and learned that Roxas is also facing a separate murder case.

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and verify other information uncovered during the search warrant operation.

The severed head was found in Barangay Cansojong on July 11. At the time, Basilio had been reported missing in Barangay San Isidro for seven days.

The Talisay City Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Basilio’s death and the appropriate charges against the alleged suspect. — (FREEMAN)
