Boatwright out sa Asian Games
MANILA, Philippines — Hindi makalalaro si Bennie Boatwright sa oras na depensahan ng Gilas Pilipinas ang korona nito sa 2026 Asian Games na idaraos sa susunod na buwan sa Nagoya, Japan.
Kinumpirma ito ni Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone kung saan sinabi nitong hindi aabot ang naturalization papers ni Boatwright para sa Asian Games.
“Bennie is out, he won’t be able to play in either tournament,” ani Cone sa programang Power and Play.
Bukod pa rito, posibleng hindi rin makalaro si Boatwright sa FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers second round na lalaruin sa huling bahagi ng buwan.
“There’s a slight possibility he could play in window, the FIBA tournament with Iran and Jordan. The Asian Games is obviously the tournament in Japan but Bennie won’t be available because his papers didn’t come on time,” ani Cone.
Sinabi ni Cone na naghigpit ang Asian Games organizers partikular na sa pagsusumite ng mga dokumento ng mga players.
“Japan has stricken him in the list. But there’s a slight possibility he can make it for window,” ani Cone.
Gayunpaman, nananatiling matikas ang Gilas dahil nariyan si Justin Brownlee kasama ang iba pang miyembro ng tropa para depensahan ang korona nito.
Posibleng hindi rin makalaro sina Dwight Ramos, Carl Tamayo at Kevin Quiambao na nasa professional leagues sa Japan at South Korea na sasabay sa schedule ng Asiad.
