LPA enters PAR; development into cyclone delayed

MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area earlier expected to develop into a tropical cyclone has entered the Philippine area of responsibility and will bring rains in some parts of Luzon and the Visayas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA said the development of the LPA into a cyclone has been delayed due to the lack of clouds and exposure of its circulation center.

The trough of the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Bicol and Eastern Visayas as well as Romblon.

The weather disturbance was last located at 940 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon. It will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the region due to the southwest monsoon or habagat.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

The LPA was expected to move west-northwest or toward Northern Luzon on Friday or Saturday.

Once it develops into a cyclone, it will be given the name Kiyapo and may affect the Cordilleras, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and parts of Central Luzon as well as the northern portions of Quezon and Bicol.

The monsoon will dump rain over the Visayas and Mindanao until Sunday.
