SHAABAA SEASON 29: Cebu Landmasters Batch 2003 on the brink of Division A crown
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Landmasters Batch 2003 dominated ARQ Batch 2001, 74-55, in the opener of their best-of-three Division A finals in the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 29 last Sunday, July 19, at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles Arena in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
Daryle Tan nearly recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists while Wilmer Rodney Ong posted a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds as Batch 2003 moved a win away from clinching the division crown.
Justin Huang also caught the eye with 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists, four steals, and one block in Batch 2003’s wire-to-wire triumph.
The Cebu Landmasters-backed squad never looked back after racing to a hot 19-11 start.
Batch 2003 stretched its lead to 37-23 at halftime, before it peaked at 23 points, 74-51, in the dying seconds of the lopsided contest.
Mark Hing was the lone double-digit scorer for Batch 2001 with 14 points, nine rebounds, one assist and a block.
Batch 2003 will try to score a sweep but must brace for a Batch 2001 fightback in Game 2 set for August 2.
