Christine Jorelle Usaraga: Cebu candidate at Bb. Pilipinas 2026

CEBU, Philippines — Could this year's Cebu delegate, Christine Jorelle Usaraga, be the latest to join her Cebuana peers who have won a Binibining Pilipinas title?

Usaraga, who is Candidate No. 35 in Binibining Pilipinas 2026, has been described as a "hidden gem" following her preliminary performance and the online support she has received. One commentator observed, "We really need to look into how Christine Usaraga handles the pressure of carrying the Cebu sash. The expectations are always sky-high whenever you represent that province, but she manages it with pure elegance."

During a press conference earlier this month, the 27-year-old candidate was asked if she felt "pressured."

"Of course!" she responded with a laugh. "The pressure is there, but I use it as a tool for me to fight more, to train more in order to dazzle you on July 18 (coronation night). We continue to train, to learn, and grow here in Binibini because I am carrying the banner of Cebu, and I am ready to take over the stage."

On her Instagram profile, Usaraga describes herself as a "baby nurse," volunteer, and advocate. In a pre-pageant interview, she said joining Binibining Pilipinas is not only about fulfilling a childhood dream but also about promoting the advocacies closest to her heart.

Her main advocacy for this pageant focuses on strengthening disaster preparedness and relief. She explained, "I want to put focus on or enhance disaster relief and preparedness by collaborating with the community and harnessing the technology to focus on the people who are at risk in disaster crises."

When she previously competed in Hiyas ng Pilipinas 2024, her advocacy focused on improving the lives of farmers, whom she called the "heroes of our communities and stewards of Earth."

While she represented La Union during her Hiyas ng Pilipinas stint, she reiterated her Cebuana roots in her Binibining Pilipinas tourism video, which highlighted several of Cebu's iconic landmarks, including Magellan's Cross, the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu, Fort San Pedro, Taboan Public Market, and Mactan Shrine.

"In Cebu, every wave tells a story and every adventure feels like home. Rich in history, rounded in faith," she said. "As a proud Cebuana, I carry the warmth, resilience, and joy of my people."

Although Usaraga did not place in the Top 10 of the national costume competition, she made an impression on netizens with her sea siren-inspired ensemble by Manny Halasan and Uly Montenegro, a nod to Cebu's coral reefs and rich marine biodiversity.

"Dynamic storytelling right here, standard formatting of a true tourism ambassador. Go, Christine from Cebu," praised a commenter online.

In an interview with a pageant vlogger, Usaraga said she considers the evening gown competition one of her strongest performances, showcasing a shimmering ice-blue gown, also designed by Halasan, during the pageant's gala night on June 22. One commenter noted, "The ice-blue palette looks exceptionally premium under the venue spotlights."

Before flying to Metro Manila for the pageant, Usaraga paid a courtesy call on Cebu Vice Governor Glenn Soco.

"She shared that she is the only Cebuana competing in this year's pageant, a distinction that makes us even prouder of her courage and determination," he said in a post last April. "Christine, we wish you all the best as you carry the pride of Cebu on the national stage. Thank you for representing our province. Know that we will support you all the way."

Thirty-five candidates will be vying for two crowns -- Binibining Pilipinas International, and Binibining Pilipinas Globe -- at the pageant's finals tomorrow night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
