In Mandaue City: Incentives for 3-term barangay officials pushed —
CEBU, Philippines — The Mandaue City Council is proposing a Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) for qualified barangay captains and barangay councilors, with incentives of up to P50,000 for officials who have served three consecutive terms.
Councilor Dante Borbajo, who authored the proposed ordinance, said the measure seeks to provide P50,000 to qualified barangay captains and P25,000 to qualified barangay councilors.
However, only officials who have completed three uninterrupted terms will be eligible for the incentive.
"Kanang wala ma-interrupt ilahang three terms," Borbajo said in an interview.
The councilor explained that some barangay officials had interruptions in their terms, making them ineligible under the proposed ordinance.
"Kana rang straight atong mahatagan," he said.
Borbajo said the proposed incentive is a form of recognition for barangay officials for their years of service.
As president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC), Borbajo said the initiative had been planned for a long time.
He also expressed gratitude to Mayor Thadeo Jovito Ouano for supporting the proposal.
According to Borbajo, this is a city initiative, with the funding to be sourced from the city's general fund.
The councilor said he hopes the SRI can be implemented within the year.
