Labangon fire leaves 7 families homeless
CEBU, Philippines — Seven families were displaced while a man suffered from burn injuries after a fire swept through a residential compound in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, on Thursday morning, July 9, destroying one house, damaging three others, and causing an estimated P225,000 in property losses.
The fire broke out along Balaga Drive in Sitio Cecalco and was reported to the Cebu City Fire Station at 7:51 a.m. Firefighters arrived at the scene two minutes later, raised the first alarm, and declared the blaze under control at 8:31 a.m.
Initial findings by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) showed that one residential structure was completely destroyed while three others sustained partial damage. The fire affected about 150 square meters and displaced seven families composed of 34 individuals.
A male resident suffered first-degree burns on his face and upper extremities during the incident. No fatalities were reported.
The administrator of the affected rental property, which is owned by his family, said most of the tenants were married couples working in nearby areas.
The 74-year-old administrator said the apartment units have stood for decades, noting that the rental property is even older than he is.
A total of 10 response units were deployed to contain the blaze, including four fire trucks from the BFP, one ambulance, and five auxiliary response units.
Fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and an investigation is ongoing. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
