Lakas ng energy ni Phillips napuna ni Cone
MANILA, Philippines — Nakakuha ng mataas na puntos si Mike Phillips mula kay Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone sa laban ng Gilas Pilipinas at Australia sa third window ng FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
Lumasap ng 49-92 kabiguan ang Pinoy cagers sa Boomers sa larong ginanap sa Perth, Australia.
Sa kabila ng kabiguan, nakakuha si Cone ng positibong pananaw dahil ilang players ang nag-step up — kabilang na si Phillips.
“He was one of the bright lights for us. He was doing great, especially in the first half. He was rebounding the heck out of the ball,” ani Cone.
Nagtala si Phillips ng anim na puntos at 14 rebounds sa naturang laro.
Kilala si Phillips sa tawag na ‘Motor Mike.’
“And just playing. His nickname is ‘Motor Mike’ and there’s a reason for that. He plays with such a tremendous motor. And he’s all over the floor,” ani Cone.
Maganda ang inilaro ni Phillips na malaking tulong para maipasa nito ang enerhiya sa mga teammates nito.
“He’s a young guy and he plays with so much enthusiasm. He’s very, very infectious and it was less visible because of the score,” ani Cone.
Kaya naman masaya si Cone na napasama si Phillips sa kanyang tropa dahil malaki ang ambag para mas lalong ganahan ang iba pang miyembro ng Gilas.
“But I think that’s just something that our fans are going to really appreciate as we move forward, watching him play with that kind of effort, and then watching the other guys get infected by it and continuing to play,” ani Cone.
Sunod na sasalang ang Gilas sa second round ng FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers na idaraos sa MOA Arena sa Pasay City sa Agosto.
