Phenom NZ, JProject Boomers lead winners of SLA Jr. World Showcase

CEBU, Philippines — The Phenom New Zealand Blufire and the JProject Boomers topped the list of winners in the highly successful Sinag Liga Asia (SLA) Junior World Showcase, which came to a close last Sunday, July 5, before a jam-packed crowd at the Cebu Coliseum.
Mark Sarza produced a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds with two assists and a steal as the Phenom NZ fended off the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 66-62, to emerge as champions in the 23 Under division.
Bonel Sacro and Peter Rosillo added 14 points, each even as they also combined for 15 rebounds for Phenom NZ, which lost a double-digit lead in the final three minutes but held on to victory.
On the other hand, Kenji Yob Moral exploded for 29 points with four rebounds, seven assists, and three steals as the JProject Boomers thrashed Phenom Parola-Panaon, 96-72, to secure the 19 Under crown.
Three other JProject players cracked double figures, including Johari Domingo with 13 points, three rebounds, one assist and five steals.
Ren Andrei Llescas chipped in 12 points and two rebounds while Alexander Ejurango contributed 10 points, five rebounds, one steal and two blocks for JProject.
In the 13 Under, the Davao Microsmith Elite Eaglets clinched the title after annihilating New York BSA, 88–60.
Floyd Leiji Lucero delivered 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and five steals in Davao’s wire-to-wire triumph.
Carl Anakin Villegas cashed in 16 points, while Miven Jeighcob Vidal and Alden Roi Singcol tallied 27 markers in between them for the Eaglets.
Familya DC and Tumakbo United caught part of the spotlight after reigning supreme in the 17 Under and 15 Under age groups, respectively. — (FREEMAN)
