Fierce international competition looms ahead at SLA Junior World Showcase

CEBU, Philippines — Cebuano fans brace for intense battles and high-level grassroots basketball action when the highly anticipated Sinag Liga Asya (SLA) Junior World Showcase Season 3.0 takes place on July 1-5 across several venues in Cebu City.
In all, 50 teams from the United States, Canada, Australia, United Arab Emirates, and various parts of the Philippines will converge in the Queen City of the South for the five-day global cage wars, which promises fierce competition in five age groups (13, 15, 17, 19, and 23 Under).
Apart from host Cebu, teams from Manila, Davao, Ormoc, Panaon (Misamis Occidental), and Loreto (Agusan del Sur) will also join their international counterparts in what is expected to be the biggest grassroots basketball spectacle in the region this year.
Games will be played at four venues: Cebu Coliseum, Cebu City Sports Institute, University of San Carlos (USC)-Downtown Campus Gymnasium, and Magnum Sports Complex.
SLA Chairman Rocky Chan expressed excitement over the upcoming tilt , which will feature some of the best young talents from around the world.
“It’s going to be a competitive tournament. These grassroots teams are coming not just to play, but to compete,” said Chan.
With less than a week remaining before tip-off, Chan emphasized that the participating teams have spent months preparing for the prestigious event.
“These squads are determined and have prepared rigorously for a tough competition. Every win counts, and they are not coming across the globe just to be beaten by the Philippine teams,” he added.
Despite the strong field of foreign squads, Chan believes the local teams will be equally motivated to defend home court.
“The local teams take pride in representing their country in this competition. We have teams coming from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, and they are ready for the challenge. But it’s going to be tough,” he said.
Chan also encouraged the public to witness the action firsthand.
“Expect exciting and physical games from both local and international teams. Admission is free, so we invite everyone to come and enjoy an exciting week of basketball,” he said.
