Capitol supports fight against hunger with a running event

CEBU, Philippines — Buoyed by its ardent desire to promote a healthier Cebu while supporting the fight against hunger, the Provincial Government of Cebu headed by Governor Pamela “Pam” Baricuatro will be staging the first ever
Governor’s Zero Hunger Run on August 2 starting and ending at the Capitol grounds.
“This is just one of the programs that we came up for the development of sports in Cebu,” said Cebu Provincial Sports Commission Chairman Dr. Rhoel Dejano during the formal launching of the purposeful event on Wednesday, June 24, at the Capitol conference room.
Dejano was joined by provincial sports commissioner and project-in-charge Francis Chad Salimbangon, sports consultant Dr. Janos Vizcayno Jr., CPSC Executive Director Engr. Rodrigo Tanza Jr., Atty. Kevin Dinsay of the Governor’s Office, Wilbert James Gacrama of the Technical Working Group, and race director Dwight Velasco.
Salimbangon said they are targeting 2,500 participants to take part in Capitol’s first ever footrace that is among the highlights of Cebu’s 457th Founding Anniversary celebration.
Close to P250,000 in cash prize will be given away to the winners.
The male and female champions in the 21K category will take home P20,000 each while the second and third placers will pocket P15,000 and P10,000, respectively. The fourth and fifth will both receive P5,000.
In the 12K, the top three performers will claim P10,000, P8,000, and P5,000, with the fourth and fifth getting P3,000 apiece.
The Top 5 finishers in the 6K will be rewarded with P8,000, P6,000, P4,000, P3,000, and P2,000 while the Top 3 in the 3K will receive P5,000, P3,000, and P2,000.
Entry fee is pegged at P600 for the 1K Fun Run, P800 for the 3K and 6K, P1,250 for the 12K, and P1,600 for the 21K.
