P30 million transport park to rise in Marikina

MANILA, Philippines — Bicycle enthusiasts will soon have more spaces in Marikina as the city government has started the construction of a transport park.
Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro on Friday led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Marikina Active Transport Park in Barangay Marikina Heights.
With funding of over P30 million, the project is the local government’s way of promoting Marikina as a bicycle and pedestrian-friendly city.
“No trees will be cut for this project,” Teodoro said in a Facebook post.
The park will have its own stake and BMX park, end-of-trip facilities for cyclists and commuters, a pet park, an outdoor exercise area and community spaces.
Teodoro thanked Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez for the national government’s support for the project.
Barring delays, the project is scheduled for completion in February 2027.
